S V S CONFERENCE 2013

     About the Conference

We are in the most challenging time when technology and our traditional library values are converging.  Libraries have undergone a great paradigm shift under the influence of Information Technology (IT). With the development of automation and computing and a knowledge society, libraries have evolved to become information providers rather than mere document providers. The internet explosions have opened up electronic information to the masses and they are demanding that information be presented to them in an aesthetic manner. Indeed recent advances in the field of IT contribute significantly to improve the services of the library. Further, the impact of IT has led to a paperless society, digital libraries and virtual libraries.

While acknowledging the changes taking place in the mode and service of information delivery and usage, it is important that the library profession rediscover the specialised needs and expectations of the users so that it can reevaluate its services, and reinvigorate the library professional. The future of the libraries and information centres depends on the information professionals who attempt to understand in-depth these emerging changes and equip themselves accordingly. With these concerns in mind it is planned to organize a two day national conference on ‘Academic Libraries: Challenges in the Electronic Era’ in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada & Kodagu library Association, (R) Udupi, Karnataka.

The major objectives of the symposium are:

·         To create awareness amongst the LIS professionals on the recent developments in the library and information services.

·         To find out the emerging library and information technologies for delivering quality and value added services

·         To provide a forum to participants to share knowledge and ideas and promote closer cooperation and development amongst the information    professionals.

·         To foster an alliance with experts and professionals for improving Library and Information Services.
